Beneath the Surface: NZ's freshwater fish - victims of climate change and habitat destruction. Green MP Conservation spokesperson Metiria Turei speaks at a public meeting in Prebbleton on Monday (see events diary). Her talk will focus on threats to New Zealand's freshwater fish - particularly eels (tuna), but she is also keen to exchange ideas on conservation and environmental issues in general. Also participating: local Lake Ellesmere Fisherman Clem Smith, and NIWA Scientist and eel expert Don Jellyman.
'Longfin' will also screen. It's a 24-minute film from Lindsey Davidson and Melissa Salpietra, former students of Otago University's Natural History and Filmmaking Program. All welcome. The Waihora Ellesmere Trust is host for the meeting.
WEA & Canterbury University joint lectures: the Election Year series: (see events diary) lectures, questions and discussion on democracy and the NZ general election. Delivered the same day at both the WEA (54 Gloucester St) and the University of Canterbury (UC). (UC venues on enrolment). WEA lectures: 1.30 – 3.00 pm, UC lectures: 7.00 – 8.30 pm., 5 Tuesdays and 5 Thursdays, beginning Tuesday, 19 August.
